Born on July 25, 1985, in Heidelberg, Germany, Nelson Piquet Jr. began his career in karting before quickly climbing the ranks of European junior formula racing. His natural talent allowed him to stand out in the GP2 Series, where he finished runner-up in 2006 following an outstanding season competing against Lewis Hamilton. This achievement opened the doors to Formula 1, leading him to join the Renault F1 Team in 2008.
Following his Formula 1 career, Nelson successfully reinvented himself in North America. He became one of the few drivers in the world to win races in two of NASCAR’s top national divisions, including the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2014–2015, he made history by winning the inaugural Formula Echampionship, becoming the first-ever world champion of the revolutionary electric racing series.
