Gianmarco Ercoli produced an extraordinary display of courage and determination to win Sunday’s V8GP Championship race at Autodrom Most.
The Italian driver suffered a serious injury to his right index finger following contact during the opening lap. Despite the pain and the physical challenge of controlling the powerful No. 11 Alumitec Racing Ford Mustang, Ercoli refused to surrender.
He remained focused and continued fighting at the front of the field.
After race leader Jordan O’Brien encountered a throttle problem and was forced into the pits, Ercoli took control of the race. However, the victory was far from guaranteed. Thomas Toffel remained directly behind him, applying relentless pressure throughout the closing stages.
Ercoli responded with precision and discipline. Despite his injured hand, he protected the lead, avoided mistakes and crossed the finish line first after 17 demanding laps.
The victory was Ercoli’s second of the 2026 season and represented one of the most courageous performances in Alumitec Racing’s history.
“Gianmarco demonstrated the heart of a true champion,” said team owner Alain Lord Mounir. “Driving these cars requires enormous physical strength, and doing it with a fractured finger is extremely difficult. He refused to give up and delivered an unforgettable victory for the entire team.”
Following the race, medical examinations revealed that Ercoli had suffered a displaced fracture involving three fragments, underlining the exceptional nature of his performance.
